Cholula, Pueblo, is the oldest still inhabited city in the northern hemisphere dating back 2,500 years. Cholula hot sauce is manufactured in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico and is licensed by Jose Cuervo. This is it. Cholula Mexican Hot Sauce Original. The Premier. The Authentic. Cholula took generations of recipes and wisdom and this is where they arrived – “El Sabor Perfecto” or “The Perfect Flavor.” Cholula is named after the oldest city in the Northern Hemisphere, Cholula, or Cholōllān as referred to by the native Nahuatl people who settled there. Rumor says that the first Toltecs who arrived to the area 500 years before the Nahuatl, around 1,000 BC (Before Cholula), brought some hot sauce with them – pure speculation. Excellent on hamburgers, fish, or chicken, and maybe through it in the pasta sauce! Why not? And you’ll think I am Condimented, but ya gotta try it on cottage cheese. Remember, be cool.

As long as we’re focusing on a historical perspective, it is widely believed that Cholula derived its name from legendary Broadway and film actress, Cholula Bankhead. However, there are those who say this is at best apocryphal, and at worst, holds as much truth as a politician’s stump speech. However, there is an old urban legend used to frighten young children to sleep, that speaks of the Cholulacabra, a ravenous manbeast who douses said children with hot sauce before feasting on their tiny little bones. The only safe haven from the Cholulacabra is to hide under your covers or inside a large taco. To fend off a Cholulacabra, fill a Super-Soaker with milk, or throw as much sour cream at it as your tiny little hands can hold. You’ll deal with mom punishing you for eating sour cream in bed later, but at least you’ll be alive.
